With certification, Washington reinstates heavy metal testing requirement
Tacoma, Wash. – Washington state’s Liquor and Cannabis Board on April 11 certified Medicine Creek Analytics, owned by the Puyallup Tribe of Indians, to test for heavy metals in cannabis products.
That makes Medicine Creek Analytics the only lab in Washington certified to perform such testing, after the previous lab ended its cannabis testing program. At that point, there was no lab to certify medically-compliant product so the DOH rescinded the requirement for heavy metals testing until another entity was able to run the tests. Medicine Creek Analytics filled the need and once they were certified, the DOH is once again requiring these tests for medically-compliant products.
“We’re very happy about the designation,” said Tribal Council Chairman Bill Sterud. “Medicine Creek Analytics is an important part of the Tribe’s strategy to support natural pain management and promote safety within the cannabis industry.”
Medicine Creek Analytics opened in September 2016 and has grown the number of samples and types of tests they’re able to run each year. The lab also is ISO 17025 accredited, is an internationally-recognized accreditation for all types of analytical testing facilities and allows Medicine Creek Analytics the capability to test above and beyond the required state-mandated tests. The lab has state-of-the-art instrumentation and facilities and provide compliance testing for I-502 licensees who provide the variety of adult recreational cannabis in Washington, hemp processors, CBD product formulators and medical patients who want to ensure their medicine is safe.
